THREE STYLES OF HEALTHY: WHICH ARE YOU?
New Year - New Goals, right?
We've had countless discussions with thousands of people throughout the years and have come to some conclusions.
There is a lot of confusion about what "health" food is. Generally speaking, we've also found that when people think about eating healthy, they fall into these three categories!
Three Styles Of Healthy Eating
Health Nut
Some people view healthy eating as eating organic only or minimally processed foods. They might also be plant-based or sustainable sourced along with anti-GMO foods. They might avoid preservatives and known cancer-causing ingredients. Food dyes, high-fructose corn syrup, artificial ingredients, or unprocessed grains are the choice of the health nut.
Most people that eat like a health nut have one focus in mind. Eat foods that will reduce my risk of disease or allergy. Of course, there are many reasons to select foods in this category, and this is not an exhaustive list or label.
There is a chance that you can make all the "right" choices when it comes to source, ingredient, and responsibility but yet not be able to reach your desired body composition or performance goals.
Bodybuilder
People that view healthy eating as how you look on the beach fall into the bodybuilder category. The most important thing that deems a food appropriate for consumption is not how it tastes or how it may affect their bodies in the future but how it will make them look.
Substituting real with artificial is appropriate when it comes to outward appearance. In the end, it doesn't matter too much where the food comes from but only if the body will properly metabolize it and help reach the desired outcome.
Those that fall into this category of "healthy" only eat certain foods because it will impact their body composition.
Performer
The last category of healthy eaters is those that eat for performance. Generally, this is a smaller segment of the population, but there are plenty of folks who eat to perform.
Whether it is a long-distance event or the pump at the gym, these eaters are focused on properly fueling their bodies to get the desired outcome in their arena of performance.
They may or may not avoid certain foods that could negatively affect the way they perform or recover. Overall, body composition isn't the most important factor in deeming their food healthy; their performance is!
You might say, "I do all these things." That could very well be true, and there is no right/wrong answer. Also, remember this is not an exhaustive list or hard lines on eating habits. It is only a pattern we've seen emerge through lots of discussions with real people like you!
As you think about what you consider healthy food, determine what the most important factors for your choices are. Healthy is a relative term marketers use to get you to buy their products. Do some research and determine what your definition of healthy eating looks like.
