Stay Strong This December: A Game Plan for the Holidays
The holidays are here! It’s a season full of joy, but let’s be honest—it’s also full of challenges. Between holiday parties, shopping, shorter days, and cold weather, it can feel hard to stick to your health goals and it can leave you feeling tired and stressed af. But here’s the good news: you don’t have to wait for January to take care of yourself. With a simple plan, you can enjoy the season and feel great doing it.
BONUS: I’ve created a free December Holiday Health Planner to help you stay focused and create a game plan for the month. This planner includes daily habit trackers, a weekly goal-setting guide, and tools to analyze your progress. Download it and let’s get started!
1. Make Time for Quick Workouts
- Life is busy, so keep it simple.
- Try a 30-minute workout (like 9Round kickboxing!) before your day gets crazy.
- Move your body in any way you can—even a quick walk helps!
- Schedule workouts like you schedule holiday events.
2. Stress Less, Enjoy More
- Holidays can feel overwhelming. Take a deep breath!
- Block off time for yourself—even just 10 minutes to relax.
- Set boundaries: Ask yourself why you’re going to a party. Is it because you want to or because you feel like you have to? It’s okay to say no sometimes!
- Try punching out stress with a workout (you’ll feel amazing after).
- Write down 3 things you’re thankful for each day to stay positive.
3. Enjoy Holiday Foods Without Guilt
- It’s okay to have a treat—just don’t overdo it.
- Use a smaller plate to help with portion sizes.
- Drink water between holiday drinks to stay hydrated.
- Follow the 3 bite rule - you savor the first bite and remember the last bite, and forget all of the bites in between, so keep your favorite indulgent foods to 3 bites.
- Focus on the company, not just the food.
4. Boost Your Energy During Winter
- Shorter days can zap your energy.
- Get outside during daylight hours if you can, or take vitamin D supplement (check with your doctor).
- Keep moving! Exercise gives you a natural energy boost.
- Stay warm and cozy while working out at home if it’s too cold to go out.
5. Plan Ahead for a Great Month
- Set small goals each week, like 3 workouts or eating more veggies.
- Use a planner to write down your healthy habits.
- Remember, little steps add up to big wins!
