Busting Fitness Myths: You Should Work Out Every Day
When you start a new fitness routine, it’s tempting to think that hitting up the gym every day will speed up your results. While it’s true that working out more will help you burn more calories, it’s also a great way to fast-track an injury or other serious health issues. This mindset can be very dangerous, especially for beginners whose bodies aren’t used to working out regularly. So, keep reading for more insight on why you shouldn’t give in to this common fitness myth and to learn what a healthy workout routine looks like at our studios.
To get the most out of your workout routine, you have to focus on quality over quantity. It’s not about how long you’re at the gym, but how effective your workout is while you’re there. You can actually get a more effective workout in 30 minutes vs. an hour, if you’re picking the right exercises. Choosing compound exercises over isolation exercises is a great way to increase your results without increasing your workout time, which is something our Fitness Programming team does when planning our Daily 9Round Workouts.
Because our fitness program is designed to be vigorous and fast-paced, you only need 30 minutes for killer results. Every 9Round workout has been curated to ensure you’re getting the most out of your 30 minutes. This helps you feel accomplished after each workout, especially when you’ve earned a ton of PULSE Points by staying in the right heart rate zones.
However, your body is not designed to keep up this type of intense exercise for multiple days in a row without rest. You’ll learn that we recommend three workouts per week at your local studio or at home to start, so you can allow your body the time it needs to become accustomed to the workouts and to recover. Scheduling just three workouts a week provides plenty of rest days to help your body heal without sacrificing the results you want.
Once you notice your body has adjusted to the intensity of our workouts, you can increase the number of workouts you do per week, as long as you create a sustainable schedule. Always remember, it’s more important to have a consistent exercise routine you can stick to than it is to squeeze in a ton of workouts in a row. We often see people try to work out every day right from the start, and then they end up giving up on their fitness routine after a few weeks because it’s too much for them to handle, whereas, going just three days a week can be much more manageable for most people.
Regardless of how frequently plan on working out, we still recommend having at least one or two rest days per week to give your body that crucial recovery time. This is especially important when your muscles are feeling extra sore, as a lack of rest can lead to an increased risk of injury. As a general rule of thumb, you should scale things back down if you start to have difficulty sleeping or experience excessive soreness after increasing your number of workouts per week.
